Update: Officer-Involved Shooting Reported in Columbia

One person was injured in an officer-involved shooting in northern Columbia.

A Columbia Police officer shot a suspect after the person allegedly assaulted the officer, the department announced Thursday afternoon.

The officer was responding to a call at a home on Woodridge Drive in Columbia.

Police say the officer was hit in the head during a fight in the area, according to a WLTX report. 

The suspect was shot in the lower body after several attempts to subdue the suspect was unsuccessful. , according to tweets from the department.

Both the officer and the suspect were transported to a local hospital. 

The officer is said to be okay, according to the department. 

The State Law Enforcement Division has been called to the scene. It is normal procedure for SLED to respond to officer-involved incidents.
