Police: Motorcyclist Killed, Driver Charged in 2-Vehicle Collision

A motorcyclist is dead after his bike collided with a car Saturday night, Columbia Police said.
The collision occurred at the intersection of Hazelwood Road and Burdell Drive, which is between Garner's Ferry and Caughman roads.
The identity of the motorcyclist has not been released by the Richland County Coroner's Office.

The driver of the car, Troy Labrente Wilson of Columbia, is facing multiple charges including felony DUI involving death, Columbia Police spokeswoman Jennifer Timmons said.
Police say Wilson was traveling south on Hazelwood Road when he attempted to make a left turn onto Burdell Drive, failing to yield the right of way to the motorcycle traveling north on Hazelwood Road.

The motorcycle collided with the car, striking the right front passenger door of the vehicle, Timmons said.
The motorcyclist was transported to Palmetto Health Richland where he was pronounced dead as a result of his injuries, she said.
Police say Wilson allegedly left the scene of the collision but returned and was arrested.
Other charges against Wilson, 26, are: hit and run involving death, driving under suspension second offense, seatbelt violation, failure to render aid, open container in a motor vehicle and possession with the intent to distribute marijuana.
Wilson is being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
The collision is the city's first alcohol-related death in 2013, Timmons said.
