Report: Columbia Council Agrees to Open Winter Homeless Shelter Early
The winter shelter will run 24 hours a day, seven days a week for seven months.

An emergency winter shelter for Columbia's homeless will open early, beginning Sept. 24, according to a report from The Free Times.
Columbia City Council approved the shelter's opening date among other items at a regular meeting Tuesday.
Council also voted unanimously to rescind its approval of a plan addressing the homeless at its Aug. 13 meeting. The vote on Aug. 13 drew national media attention and much criticism from advocates for the homeless community.
The winter shelter will run 24 hours a day, seven days a week for seven months, ending April 15.
