Report: Strong Mayor Referendum to be Held in December
Columbia City Council voted at a called meeting Wednesday night to hold a special election in December if enough petition signatures are certified.

The vote for a strong mayor referendum in Columbia could take place in December instead of Nov. 5, according to a report from the Free Times.
Columbia City Council voted 4-3 Wednesday night to hold a special election on Dec. 3 for residents to decide on a strong mayor form of government if a petition with more than 12,000 signatures is certified by Richland County election officials, the report said.
The petition results will not be released until Friday, according to a report from The State.
Signatures of at least 15 percent of the city’s qualified voters is needed to have a referendum.
