Savannah River Site Announces Sequestration-Related Furloughs

Energy facility hit by sequestration.

It did not take long for the effects of sequestration to be felt in South Carolina.

According to the Augusta Chronicle, approximately 2,000 workers at the Savannah River Nuclear Solutions (SRNS) site will have their hours reduced from 40 to 32 hours per week. Others will be given full furloughs.

“Due to the uncertain and potential fluctuating amount of funding which may be available to SRNS, further furloughs may be necessary. We recognize the difficult financial implications of any furlough and we will make every effort to keep you informed” said Dwayne Wilson, the president and CEO of Fluor Corp., the largest employer at Savannah River Site, according to the paper.
