In an op-ed for the Washington, DC-based website Politico, South Carolina Sen. Jim DeMint slammed the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) as little more than an arm of the Democratic Party.
In the piece, DeMint claimed that the AARP is an insurance conglomerate that benefits when its members buy Medigap and blocked reforms to Medigap when they were discussed as part of the Affordable Care Act. Additionally, DeMint said the AARP worked closely to craft health care reforms that would be to its benefit.
