Sources: Rep. Clyburn Would Not Accept Transportation Post

Name was put forward on Monday by colleagues.

Media outlets reported on Thursday that Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-6) has had his name put forward to fill the vacancy for Secretary of Transportation by fellow members of the Congressional Black Caucus.

The chair of the caucus, Marcia Fudge of Ohio, sent President Obama a letter on Monday requesting that Clyburn be nominated.

But multiple sources have told Patch that Clyburn would not accept the post if offered. The 72-year-old Clyburn is third ranking Democrat in the House of Representatives and would lose the influence that comes with his tenure should he accept the position.
