Suspect ID'd in Earlewood Dragging Death
Dany Alexander Zuniga-Torres, 29, is wanted in connection with the dragging death of a Columbia man in the Earlewood community.
Columbia Police have identified the driver of a van that struck and dragged a man during an altercation in the Earlewood neighborhood.
Dany Alexander Zuniga-Torres, 29, is accused of driving a van that struck and killed 52-year-old Calvin Griffith Smith of Columbia during an altercation in the 1000 block of Union Street on June 23. Smith was dragged more than 1,600 feet by the van, police said.
An autopsy conducted Monday showed Smith died from multiple trauma, Richland County Coroner Gary Watts said.

Investigators consider Zuniga-Torres to be a flight risk. Once arrested, he is expected to be charged with hit and run resulting in death, according to the department.
Police say Zuniga-Torres’ last known address was in West Columbia and he may also have ties to Florida and Honduras.
