Suspect ID'd in Shooting of Girl, 4
Marcus Sinclaire Gantt, 21, is wanted in connection with a shooting at the Colony Apartments off Beltline Boulevard Monday night.
Columbia Police have identified a suspect in a Monday night shooting that caused a 4-year-old girl to be hospitalized after she was hit by a stray bullet.
Marcus Sinclaire Gantt, 21, is accused of shooting at a passing vehicle at the Colony Apartments off Beltline Boulevard around 8 p.m. Monday.
Investigators believe Gantt was among a group of people on foot who exchanged gunfire with a person or persons in a silver Dodge Charger.
A 4-year-old girl was hit by a stray bullet while she watched TV in her home on Bailey Street, police spokeswoman Jennifer Timmons said.
The Columbia Police Department tweeted Tuesday afternoon that the child was still recovering and that the mother called her daughter "a fighter." The girl was listed in critical but stable condition after surgery.
Once captured, Gantt is expected to be charged with attempted murder, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, and unlawful carrying of a pistol, Timmons said.
Gantt is considered armed and dangerous.
Anyone with information about the incident or Gantt's whereabouts should call Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
