The grant opportunity materialized at a farmers market managers workshop held by the Department of Agriculture in March.

“The AgSouth representative was at the workshop and we were able to apply for the grant,” said Easley Farmers Market Manager Lisa Garrett.

Garrett said the funds will help pay for billboards that to promote the farmers market.

The first billboard is now up on Highway 153 and will be up for eight weeks, she said.

A second billboard will go up on Highway 123 when the first one goes down.

AgSouth also donated 250 cloth bags, which be distributed to farmers market customers.

Garrett said she would probably give the bags to the vendors at the farmers market so they could hand them out to their customers.

“Anybody that wants a free market bag should just come on by the market,” Garrett said.

The market is open in front of City Hall on Saturdays from 8am – noon.

On June 4th, the market will be open on Tuesday evenings from 5pm – 8pm.

Garrett said officials were thankful for the grant.
