Editor's Note: The 6th Annual Sam Wyche Food Fight Bowl is August 23. In the weeks leading up to the big game, we'll be running guest editorials that outline why you should support this fundraiser for Pickens County Meals on Wheels. Who's up this week? Former NFL Coach Jon Gruden!
I hope all you Easley fans will make sure you raise more money than those folks in Pickens. Let’s face it: they have “kicked tail” for the first four out of five years of the Sam Wyche Food Fight Bowl! And the other game was ruled a tie with great efforts by both sides.
No one can predict the outcome of the football game--it is always competitive. But Green Wave boosters, alumni and supporters should out give the same groups in Pickens. Easley out numbers Pickens in population and businesses. Can you see the look on my face right now? It looks like my close-up, sideline poses that Fox Sports made famous.
Whatever you guys in Pickens have been doing to “git ‘er done”, do it even better this year! Remember, you are the defending, fundraising champions going into this year’s August 23rd game at Easley.
I have been an assistant coach in college and with the Oakland Raiders. I’ve been offensive coordinator with the Packers and Eagles; and Head Coach of the Oakland Raiders and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Oh, and I led the Bucs to victory in Super Bowl XXXVII beating my former team, the Raiders! As a member of the broadcast team with ESPN’s Monday Night Football, I would seriously consider going back to coaching if another chance comes my way. I like taking on a tough job and “git‘n ‘er done.” (Did I sound like Larry, the Cable Guy just now?)
Please contribute to your favorite school by going to the Meals on Wheels web site: www.pcmow.org or sending a check by mail to Meals on Wheels--P.O. Box 184--Easley, S.C. 29641.
P.S. Get to the game early and welcome Easley’s new Head Coach to one of the oldest rivalries in America.
