Children Found in Roadway; Parents Arrested

A Liberty couple is facing charges after their two young children were found wandering in roadway on July 4.

Brian Keith Burgess, 45, and Karie Amanda Burgess, 37, both of 13 Iselin Street, Liberty, have been charged with unlawful conduct toward a child after the incident.

WSPA reports that Liberty police responded to the home after two children were found in a nearby roadway.

Police found the couple inside the home, unresponsive, WSPA reports. They were arrested on Sunday.

The children were taken into Department of Social Services custody. The kids were malnourished and there was a lack of food in the home, police said.

As of Wednesday, Brian and Karie Burgess were being held in the Pickens County Detention Center.
