Police release sketch of suspect sought in attempted armed robbery

 

Clemson University police are seeking a suspect in an attempted armed robbery that occurred Saturday on campus.

A female student was walking along Williamston Road outside Gate 1 of Memorial Stadium when a man with a handgun got out of a car and demanded that she give him a bag she was carrying, according to news release.

She ran away. The man then got back into the car and headed toward Perimeter Road.

The man is described as white, in his late 20s or early 30s, about 6 feet 2 inches tall with a thin build, clean-shaven and wearing a light-colored shirt and dark pants. The victim described the car as two-door, sporty and smaller than a Honda Civic.

Police ask that anyone with information call them at 864-656-2222.

Police have also issued the following safety tips:

Avoid walking alone at night. Call Tiger Transit at 656-3333 or go to http://tigertransit.clemson.edu/ to arrange for a ride from an escort van between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. daily.

Stay in well-lit, populated areas.

If you are confronted by an attacker, scream loudly and try to run to a safe area.
If you feel threatened use the blue light emergency phones located around campus or call 911 from a cell phone.
