In a release, Hashe said the 13th Circuit Public Defender's Office requested the transfer.

Simpson had been booked into the Pickens County Detention Center upon her release from the hospital.

The Greenville facility which is staffed with on-site medical personnel around the clock is able  to provide specialized care for inmates that have been incarcerated with pre-existing injuries or medical conditions, Hashe said.

Simpson received injuries to her back while driving a vehicle that
was subsequently involved in a one vehicle wreck on the morning of May 14, he said.

The Pickens County Sheriff’s Office and the Greenville County Detention Center entered into the agreement for Mrs. Simpson to be temporarily relocated under mutual aid provisions that allow for such arrangements and are customary between agencies throughout the state.

Simpson’s condition will be reviewed every fourteen days to determine the need for her to remain in Greenville or to be transferred back to Pickens County where she will await trial for criminal charges in the deaths of her children and the attempted murder of her husband, Hashe said.
