Hashe's release to the media said that the investigation's preliminary findings indicate that the fire was accidental and it is believed that the fire started in the kitchen near the stove.
“Statements from the mother prior to her being transported to the hospital revealed that she was preparing to cook on the stove with grease when the fire started,” the release said. “Sheriff’s Detectives were unable to determine whether the home was equipped with smoke detectors due to the damage sustained from the fire.”

The mother and her three children were the only occupants inside the residence at the time of the incident which was called in to 911 by a neighbor.
The mother and her two year old son are currently at the Augusta Burn Center where they are currently being treated for injuries sustained from the fire.
Hashe said the Sheriff’s Office is unable to comment any further as to the condition or the extent of their injuries.
