Youth serve meals to S.H.I.N.E.

The youth of Easley Presbyterian Church decided to give back to their community and their fellow church members this weekend.

Debra Gantt said church youth were slated to serve a special brunch as part of a special celebration.

“It's a brunch to thank everyone for all their participation in the capital campaign we're having to build on to our church,” Ganntt said Sunday.

The building plans, which will be completed in phases, include a new kitchen and multipurpose room, an enlargement of the youth area and a renovation of the Fellowship Hall at Easley Presbyterian.

The young people were hard at work under the big tent set up outside the church for the special meal.

“They've been here all day, they helped set up everything,” Gantt said.

The youth knew they needed practice before the big Sunday celebration.

“One of the youth decided it would be a neat idea, as we practiced how to properly serve, to invited the guests from S.H.I.N.E. and we would serve them,” said Leigh McManus, Director of Youth and Missions at Easley Presbyterian.

The youth hosted S.H.I.N.E. (Stopping Hunger in Nearby Easley) on Saturday night.

The guests from S.H.I.N.E enjoyed salad, baked spaghetti, garlic bread and desserts.

Though there were clouds overheard, there were bright smiles inside the tent as the teens served up the meals.

The special dinner kicked off a lock-in for the youth group at the church, Gantt said.

On Sunday, youth served up the plates almost as fast as the crew from Good Life Catering could finish them.
