Norris Man Sentenced to 23 Years

Solicitor: Ricky Lee Smith will have to serve at least 85 percent of sentence.

 

A Norris man has been sentenced to 23 years in prison on multiple charges.

Ricky Lee Smith, 25, plead guilty on Monday to two counts of first degree burglary, two counts of second degree burglary and two counts of grand larceny, according to Thirteenth Circuit Solicitor Walt Wilkins III.

Wilkins said that evidence presented by Assistant Solicitor Brandi Hinton established that Smith broke into 7 Pickens County residences between March 9 and May 31 of last year.

On two occasions, victims were home when Smith broke in.

Smith also plead guilty to escape. He and another inmate, Jonathan Moody, escaped from the medium security section of the Pickens County Detention Center on November 20, 2012.

Smith was being held on a number of charges, including burglary and larceny.

Moody was being held on multiple charges including armed robbery, grand larcency, manufacture and distribution of meth and receiving stolen property.

Moody was apprehended the next day in a wooded area less than a mile from the detention center.

Smith turned himself in to the Pickens County Sheriff's Office on November 24.

Wilkins said Smith will have to serve at least 85 percent of the 23-year sentence.
