Pendleton to offer Historic Walking Tours

Buy-One-Get-One on September 13 & 14!

The oldest town in our area has a brand new monthly event!  Have you ever wished you could see the history of our region through the eyes of those who lived it?  Well, we can’t offer you a real-life time-warp, but we do have the next best thing: on the second Friday and Saturday of each month (possibly excluding Saturday, October 12, 2013), put on your walking shoes and break away from the bustle of 21st Century life.

Meet docent Ellen Harrison at Hunter’s Store at 125 E. Queen Street, Pendleton SC, for a guided tour of the Pendleton Historic District.  Ms. Harrison, wearing period dress, will walk you through this 1790 town, all of which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  Along the way, you’ll hear the story of early life in many of the town’s 18th and 19th Century historic structures.  Learn about the Scots and Irish settlers who first came to the area and about the wealthy, and sometimes not so wealthy, Charlestonians, who built summer homes here to escape the Lowcountry’s “bad air.”

Ordinarily, these 1½-hour walking tours will cost $5 for Adults and $3 for Children under 12.  BUT, as an introductory offer, the September 13 & 14 tours will be offered at buy-one-get-one free! Ellen Harrison’s wealth of knowledge is well worth a much higher price of admission, but we want as many folks as possible to have the opportunity to enjoy these tours.  We promise you will not be disappointed.

In order to be sure everyone receives a quality tour, tours will be limited to the first 30 people who pay for tickets, so be sure to sign up early.

Beginning November 8, you can save $1 off the second tour when you purchase tickets the same day for both the Pendleton Historic Walking Tour and the Bart Garrison Agricultural Museum of South Carolina. (For Saturday tours, this offer will be honored the following Tuesday at the Bart Garrison Agricultural Museum.)  Pickens County Museum, Hagood Mill Historic Site, and Oconee Heritage Center will give a 10% discount on the day of purchase when you show your ticket stub.  Call 864.646.3782 for details or to reserve your tickets.
