Pickens County 4-H Program News

August events include Beef Cattle Roundup, Food Plot Project Kickoff and Volunteer Meeting

Aug 22- Pickens County Volunteer Meeting 6:30-8p.m.

The SC 4-H Wildlife Food Plot Project (formerly know as the FACE project) will kick off in August.  Registration deadline is Friday, August 16.  Cost to participate is $5 for current 4-H members/$15 for non-members.
·Planting deadline is Monday, September 30
·An agent will visit your plot during the project.
·Record books are due January 10
·Youth will be divided into three categories for judging: Cloverbuds 5-8, Juniors 9-13, and Seniors 14-19. Cloverbuds will be given participation ribbons at the county level upon completion of the project. Junior and Senior record books will be judged on the county level. One winning Junior and one winning Senior record book from each county will be sent to the regional level for competition. One winner in each age category on the regional level will receive an award and be sent to the state level for competition. The top Junior and top Senior record book will receive state awards.  Awards given on the regional and state levels will be sponsored by QDMA. The actual food plot and the record book will both be taken into consideration upon judging on the county level, which will be done by qualified Extension Agents and/or wildlife experts. Only the record book will be judged at the regional and state levels.

CITIZENSHIP WASHINGTON FOCUS 2014 ​ --Registration is open for the 2014 program!  You must be ages 14-19 and be willing to spend 6 days in the Nation's Capital next June or July.  4-Hers stay at the National 4-H Youth Conference Center.

CWF 2014 Costs are: $715.00 plus tax per person when registration and 25% deposit received by August 25, 2013 /$745.00 plus tax per person when registration and 25% deposit received by November 25, 2013.   

REGISTRATION FEE INCLUDES:  *6 nights lodging at National 4-H Youth Conference Center, 14meals, Citizenship Washington Focus polo Shirt and lanyard,  Arrangements and logistical support, Curriculum materials, Various tours and workshops, Admission and ticket fees to sites on CWF itinerary (not trips arranged by delegation), Facilitation by our highly trained and licensed collegiate program assistant team.

Houston and Harrison Hutton attended (and did super at) the 2013 Southeast Regional Hereford Show.  Pickens County 4-Hers ROCK!!

Joseph Aiken and Dale Sutter represented Pickens County at 4-H State Congress!  Thank you guys!! 

CLOVERBUD COMMENCE: A new afterschool club for Cloverbuds (ages 5-8). The club is FREE for 4-H members!  First meeting is Tuesday, Sept 10 from 2:45-3:45 at the Pickens Extension Office 222 W. Main St, Pickens.  (please drive around to the back and enter through the basement door).  Craft and snacks provided.  To sign up, please fill out a 4-H membership enrollment form and mail it in at the beginning of Sept.  SPACE IS LIMITED!!
