Pickens County Residents Recognized for Creative Communications

Association for Community Excellence recognizes Clemson University staffers.

The national Association for Communications Excellence (ACE) has recognized Clemson University Public Service and Agriculture media staff with six awards for print, graphic design and online communications.

Peter Togel of Seneca, web designer, won a Silver Award for the Clemson Extension website that connects South Carolina citizens with university research-based information for agriculture, natural resources and food safety. Togel also won a Bronze Award for the Everything About Peaches website that provides information for commercial producers, backyard growers and consumers of South Carolina peaches.

Peter Kent of Mountain Rest, science writer, won a Bronze Award for “Of Seeds and the River,” a magazine feature article that showcased the Intelligent River® remote-sensing environmental research. Kent also won Honorable Mention for “Genetics and the Coat of Many Colors,” a magazine feature article on genetic research to improve the health of dogs and humans.

Walker Massey of Norris, graphic designer, won a Bronze Award for “Agriculture Sustains Life,” an infographic that illustrates the impact of agriculture on the world, nation and state of South Carolina.

Tom Hallman of Liberty, news writer, won Honorable Mention for “Counterattack on a Killer,” a newspaper feature on Clemson research to control the latest insect pest threatening soybean production.

Debbie Dalhouse of Clemson, communications director for Public Service and Agriculture, received the Marketing Award of Excellence for overall accomplishments of the department.
