Pickens Rec to Host Traditional Arts & Music Day Camp
TAM YAM Camp will feature instruction on traditional mountain music instruments and much more.

The fifth annual Traditional Arts & Music Day Camp for Young Appalachian Musicians (TAM YAM Camp) will be held July 15-19 at Pickens Recreation Center in Pickens.

TAM YAM Camp will feature morning instruction from local musicians in the traditional instrument of their choice (fiddle, mandolin, guitar and banjo—all levels). Afternoons will be spent in activities such as outdoor games, traditional arts and crafts, clogging and square dancing, storytelling, Appalachian cooking, Native American lore, folk singing, nature and water activities, and more.

Camp will cost according to the “lunch status” of the participants: Paid Lunch, $210 per week; Reduced Lunch, $140 per week; Free Lunch, $110 per week. If students are not in a public school, they will need to pay at the Paid Lunch rate. Parents must provide a bag lunch and transportation each day.
Camp will run from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. Extended care is available, from 7:30-8:30 a.m. and 4-5:30 p.m., for an additional fee.

Campers will be chosen first-come, first-serve. Registration forms and half the fee are due by June 1, with the balance due by July 1.
Like the popular Young Appalachian Musicians (YAM) program, the TAM YAM Day Camp is sponsored by Preserving Our Southern Appalachian Music Inc. (POSAM), a charitable non-profit organization.
