Pursuit Ends in Easley Man's Death

An Easley man died early this morning after his SUV went off a bridge in Greenville County while it was being pursued by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Greenville County Deputy Coroner Jeff Fowler told WYFF 4 that Josiah Terry, 22, was pronounced dead at the scene after the wreck, which happened on Old Easley Highway at Pace Drive.

Fowler said Terry lost control of the vehicle, which went off a bridge, landing on railroad tracks.

He was not wearing a seat belt, Fowler said.

There were two passengers in the SUV at the time of the wreck. They were transported to Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Jonathan Smith, Master Deputy with the Greenville County Sheriff's Office, confirmed to WYFF 4 that a trooper had been pursuing the SUV, but could not comment on the reason for the chase.

Because the case involves a Highway Patrol trooper, the Greenville County Sheriff's Office will be investigating.
