Shelter Opening in Pickens County Due to Flooding

Those who live in flood-prone areas of the Saluda River encouraged to utilize shelter at George's Creek Baptist Church.

Pickens County Emergency Management in partnership with the American Red Cross will open a shelter today at 7:30 pm at George's Creek Baptist Church located at 1991 Saluda Dam Rd, Easley, SC 29640.  The shelter is for anyone living along the Saluda River who feels they should seek refuge from the rising water.

Pickens County Emergency Management asks those living in the flood prone areas of the Saluda River to continue to monitor weather information and to be prepared to evacuate if conditions deteriorate.

  • the Shady Acres neighborhood
  • homes near Fish Trap Road
  • homes along Old Easley Bridge Road near Highway 123

Due to the current forecast of the Saluda River approaching flooding stages during the night and cresting at 10 feet tomorrow, the shelter will remain available until those residents feel safe to return home.   

“Offering safe shelter during these conditions provides citizens with options when making decisions to protect themselves or their family. We do not want anyone to endure unnecessary hardships simply because they had no alternative” says Chuck Haynes, Director of Pickens County Emergency Management.
