Speak Out: Read Any Good Books Lately?

We're always on the lookout for great books! Share the diamonds and the duds you've been reading lately.

I love to read. I usually keep a different book in each room of my apartment – a book to read before I turn out the lights, a book to read while sitting in my Comfy Chair in the my living room.

Technology allows me to take a whole library with me wherever I go. I can download the Kindle app and read my Kindle books on my laptop or even on my phone.

What’s becoming harder to find is time to read. I’ve got a job that keeps me busy and an active social life, which is a big improvement from a time when I was pretty much a hermit.

Some people don't have time to read at all, which is sad. Some people don't enjoy reading for pleasure, which I honestly do not understand.

Since time to read is sometimes hard to come by, I really enjoy the chances to really sink into a good book.

I’ve been tracking my reading through the 50 Books Challenge, which urges participant to read at least 50 books a year, for several years.

Last year, I read 175 books, according to my records. I really found some gems last year, including an annotated version of Dracula that contained some really interesting footnotes and history about the creepy classic, and the crime novels of Richard Stark, the pen name of writer Donald E. Westlake.

This year, I probably won’t read that many. The year’s one-third over already, and I’ve read about 35 books, many of them short mysteries.

But I’m always on the lookout for more books. The stacks of books on my shelves and every other surface in my apartment waiting to be read continue to grow and there’s nothing wrong with that.

So Speak Out: Have you read any good books lately? Let’s share our recommendations. And tell us about the bad books you’ve read recently, too, so we can steer clear. There are few things worse than wasting time on a book that turns out to be terrible.
