Stan Butler Pickens High's New AD

Pickens High School is pleased to announce Stan Butler as the new athletic director for the 2013-2014 school year.

Coach Butler began his teaching career at South Middle School in Lancaster, SC, where he served as a teacher, department chair, and athletic director for seven years. He moved to Pickens in 2000 and began his teaching and coaching career at Pickens High School. Coach Butler has served as head baseball coach, girls’ golf coach, and assistant football coach while at PHS.

As the head baseball coach for ten years, he led his teams to 3 Region championships, 3 district titles, and 9 trips to the playoffs. As the girls’ golf coach, he led his team to the first ever region championship for girls’ golf at PHS. In addition, he led his team to the Upperstate championship, and he qualified  athletes for the state tournament during his 3 year tenure.

“It has been a pleasure to work with Coach Butler through the years and to observe his dedication  as a professional whether in the classroom or on the field of contest,” said Marion Lawson, PHS  principal. “I am confident that Coach Butler is ready to assume the primary leadership role in our athletic department, and I am very grateful for the leadership that Steve Corn has provided while
Stan has served as our assistant athletic director.”

Butler is a graduate of Erskine College, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, and of Winthrop University, where he earned his Master’s degree in Education.
Coach Butler has been named Region 1-AAA Baseball Coach of the Year three times, Region 1AAA Girls’ Golf Coach of the Year once, and he has been selected as a North-South All-Star baseball coach for the summer of 2013. He has served as the assistant athletic Director for three years and the physical education department chair for thirteen years.
