The Tams Playing Pickens July 27

Beach music concert part of busy summer at new amphitheater

Rain forced the cancellation of a concert feature beach music legends The Tams, but fans will have another chance to see them this summer.

The Pickens Azalea Festival committee announced recently that The Tams will play on Saturday, July 27 in the city's new amphitheater, located at W. Main Street.

More details will be announced as the date draws near.

Tonight's event is an open cruise-in. The Marvin King Band will provide the entertainment starting at 7pm.

Tonight's event is a chance for entrants to showcase all kinds of vehicles – classic and custom cars, trucks, motorcycles and more.

The cruise-ins will be held on a closed section of Main Street between U.S. 178 and Catherine Street. Vehicles participating in a cruise-in should check-in from Garvin Street between 5:30 and 6:30pm. Public viewing of the entries will begin at 6:30pm

Next week's Cruise-In and Music on Main event will feature Jeeps and music by New Dixie Storm.

City officials are planning this summer's activities at the new amphitheater.

Officials are focusing on Saturday events for the amphitheater's inaugural season.

“All summer long, all Saturdays through the end of August are going to be scheduled,” City Administrator Katherine Brackett said. “I really hope by next year we can grow into Fridays and Saturdays, but it's probably best to ease into that.”

The amphitheater seats 500, but will accommodate 300-500 more in the overflow area, Brackett said.
