• Project to identify flooding solutions in the Pee Dee's Gullah communities gets big boost (postandcourier.com) — A Georgetown-based Gullah Geechee group just secured a $750,000 federal resilience grant to tackle worsening flooding in the Pee Dee watershed, including along Georgetown County’s Black River. Over the next two years, they’ll work with local communities to design nature-based solutions like living shorelines and wetland restoration, using residents’ generational knowledge to guide which projects get prioritized and funded next.
   

• Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Donates $50K to Fight Georgetown Hunger (whosonthemove.com) — A $50,000 donation from the Georgetown Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority is boosting several Georgetown County food pantries just as families face higher costs and SNAP benefit changes. Local nonprofits like St. Cyprian’s Outreach Center, Friendship Place, and Helping Hands of Georgetown will use the funds to meet rising food insecurity in area schools and neighborhoods.
   

• School nurse accused of showing up to work drunk in South Carolina (wbtv.com) — A Waccamaw Middle School nurse in Georgetown County was arrested after a school resource officer reported signs she may have been intoxicated at work, leading to a public disorderly conduct charge. She’s now on administrative leave while the Georgetown County School District investigates, and records show she was released after promising to appear in court.
