Kangaroo Express Offers 25-cent Grill Items to Military on Veteran's Day

Stores across the Southeast will thank U.S. troops and veterans with a hot grill item

Kangaroo Express, the leading independently operated convenience store chain in the southeastern United States, operated by The Pantry, Inc. (Nasdaq: PTRY), today announced it will give service members across the Southeast a special deal in honor of Veteran’s Day. Any guest with a military I.D. that visits one of Kangaroo Express’ nearly 1,200 grill-ready stores between 12 a.m. and 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 11 is invited to purchase a grill item for just 25-cents (one per guest, while supplies last).

Included in the deal is the Maple Pancake Sausage by Oscar Mayer, a delicious concoction with savory maple syrup, a warm pancake layer and sausage grilled to perfection. For lunch, guests can sink their teeth into a delicious All-American Ball Park® Beef Hot Dog or try one of several flavors of DON MIGUEL® Brand Taquitos.

“We are always looking for ways to thank servicemen and women for their many sacrifices – whether it’s serving up a 25-cent grill item or donating millions to support military charities through our annual Salute Our Troops® campaign,” said Gordon Schmidt, senior vice president of operations, Kangaroo Express. “Our service members deserve our thanks each and every day, and we look forward to offering them a special deal as a small token of appreciation on Veteran’s Day.”

With more than half of its stores located within 25 miles of a military installation, Kangaroo Express has supported the military and their families for many years, including raising millions of dollars each year for military support organizations as part of its summer-long Salute Our Troops fundraising campaign. This year’s Salute Our Troops campaign raised more than $1.9 million, bringing the total amount of funds raised over the past four summers to $10 million.

Donations from the 2014 campaign will support the American Red Cross Service to Armed Forces, providing emergency communications, comfort and assistance to military, veterans and their families; Fisher House Foundation, donating “comfort homes” at major military and VA medical centers that enable military families to be close to a loved one during hospitalization; the United States Veterans Corps, a corps of military veterans, spouses, dependents and patriotic citizens performing hands on community service with a mission and deployment attitude, as well as six state-based military support organizations.

Kangaroo Express is also committed to offering portable, transferable career opportunities to current and former service members and their spouses. Military hiring is incorporated into the company’s strategic planning, forging partnerships with job placement non-profits and government organizations that help qualified veterans transition into civilian careers, and proactively recruiting veterans and military spouses to strengthen the workforce.
