Obituary: Claude Jackson, Pearl Harbor Survivor

Arrangements by McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, Goose Creek Chapel.

Claude J. Jackson, 94, of Goose Creek died Wednesday, December 5, 2012. He was born August 29, 1918, in Washington County, Va., a son of Swanson and Bessie Jackson.

Claude was raised in Plasterco, Va., and graduated from Glade Spring High School. After joining the Army Air Corps in 1939 he was stationed at Hickam Field where he survived the attack of December 7th, 1941 on Pearl Harbor. He spent the remainder of the Second World War as a flight engineer on an LB-30 in the South Pacific. Claude was also a veteran of the Berlin Airlift and Korean War. Chief Master Sergeant Jackson retired from the U.S. Air Force after 31 years of distinguished service. As was his nature, he continued working for another 20 years before he conceded to retire.

Claude was a man of strong character and morality, treating everyone he met with dignity and respect. As a father he was self sacrificing, always putting his family first. He had a keen mind and was quick to laugh, but was at his very best telling a story.
