Obituary: William Rowlands Jr., Local American Legion Member

William S. Rowlands Jr., 64, of Goose Creek, died on Dec. 19, 2012. Born on March 4, 1948, in E. Stroudsburg, Penn., he was the son of William S. Rowlands Sr. and Grace Albertson.

Mr. Rowlands retired from the U.S. Navy after 20 years of service and then spent 18 years with the V.T. Milcom as Supply Department Manager. He was a proud member of the American Legion of Goose Creek, a member of the Fleet Reserve in Goose Creek and attended St. James United Methodist Church.

An avid NASCAR fan, Mr Rowlands enjoyed traveling to various race tracks and camping out during the races. He also enjoyed chasing that little white ball around the golf course.

Mr. Rowlands is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Barbara McCarthy Rowlands as well as 4 daughters; Tammy Roddy, Bobbi McCarthy, Terri Rode, and Patricia Muffley, and 4 sons; Steven Rowlands, James Rode, S. Allen Rode and Clayton Muffley. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Robert Possinger, Mary Ann Adams, Thomas Rowlands and Debbie Vercruyssen, 23 grandchildren and 4 great grandsons.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society, 269 Calhoun Street, Charleston, SC 29401, or to the St. James United Methodist Church of Goose Creek, 512 Saint James Avenue , Goose Creek, SC 29445.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, at 2 p.m. at St. James United Methodist Church of Goose Creek. Arrangements by McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, Goose Creek Chapel. Online condolences may be made at McAlister-Smith.com.
