13 District 5 Schools Participating in Walk to School Event Wednesday

More than 170 schools and 53,000 students, parents and educators will participate in International Walk to School Day events on Wednesday.

Thirteen schools from Lexington-Richland 5 will join nearly 200 other schools across South Carolina in Wednesday's International Walk to School Day.

More than 40 countries participate in the event, according to the Department of Transportation, encouraging safer routes for walking and bicycling and emphasizing physical activity, pedestrian safety and conservation.

Students, parents and teachers will either meet at a nearby location and walk to school or just walk around the school at scheduled times during the day.
