16 Pay Fines in Connection with Brett Parker Gambling Operation

The men, who were charged with gambling, pleaded guilty and paid fines.

Sixteen of the 17 Richland County men arrested on gambling charges in connection with a sports betting operation police say was led by Brett Parker of Irmo pleaded guilty and paid a fine, the Richland County Sheriff's Department announced Tuesday. 

The sheriff's department offered the men a chance to avoid the misdemeanor gambling charges by entering a "gambler's anonymous" program, but only one of the men accepted the offer.

Two sports betting rings, one of which was operated by Parker, were uncovered last year after Parker's wife and friend were shot to death in the Parkers' Ascot Estates home in Irmo. 

Tammy Parker and Bryan Capnerhurst were found dead in the home on April 13, 2012

Parker, who is charged with two counts of murder, is set to go on trial May 6. 

Last year, prosecutors said Parker killed his wife to collect more than $1 million in insurance money to pay off about $600,000 in debt.
