A total of 16 posters were selected for the calendar for the months August 2013 through December 2014. Winners receive a $50 check and have their birthday printed in the calendar.

District Five Gifted and Talented Program Supervisor Tami Richardson said, “We have so many talented students in District Five. We are very proud of these students as they each demonstrated imagination, creativity and talent.”

A nonprofit business-education partnership, SC Economics has hosted the contest since 2004 as a way for students to have fun with the subject while reviewing economic concepts and principles detailed in South Carolina’s Social Studies Standards.

Constance Stegmann, SC Economics’ Programs and Community Outreach Director, said more than 800 entries were submitted from students statewide.

“Because we had so many entries, the selection process was longer and more tedious this year,” said Stegmann. “We first see if the students followed the concept they chose, and then look at creativity and other various factors to select the winners."

”The contest also gives teachers a fun, unique way to incorporate economics into their lesson plans, Stegmann added.

The calendars are distributed to the schools of the winners at the beginning of the school year. Copies can also be obtained through contacting SC Economics toll free at (888) 861-6345.
