5 Things: New Year's Eve Celebrations
Looking for something to do to celebrate the New Year? Here are five events that are going on in our area this weekend.

Where: Main Street between Hampton and Taylor streets, Columbia
When: 7:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. Saturday (gates open at 7 p.m.)
Cost: Free general admission
Info: If you like live, funky music and fireworks, then the Famously Hot New Year event held this Saturday on Main Street is the place to be. There's no admission charge and parking is free. Rock and Roll legend George Clinton and the Parliament Funkadelic will headline a concert featuring such regional acts as Terence Young and the Finesse Band and Josh Roberts and The Hinges. Where: EdVenture, 211 Gervais Street, Columbia
When: 9 a.m. Saturday
Cost: Free with museum admission. (Children and adults: $9.50; Military with ID and seniors, age 62 and up: $8.50; Groups 15 or more: $7.50; Members and children under one are free.)
Info: Join EDDIE at EdVenture Children's Museum for a New Year's Eve bash for kids. Starting at 9 a.m., the museum will have several activities for kids to celebrate New Year's Eve. The ball drops at noon.
WOW 2012: A New Year's Eve Winter Carnival
Where: Finlay Park, 930 Laurel Street
When: 4 to 9 p.m. Saturday
Cost: Free admission; $10 to ride
Info: The City of Columbia is sponsoring the WOW 2012: A New Year's Eve Winter Carnival. The family-friendly event features rides, games, food, karaoke and live entertainment from several Quantum Beats artists.
Jamil Shriners' New Year's Eve Celebration
Where: Jamil Temple, 206 Jamil Road, Columbia
When: 6 p.m. Saturday; Dinner served at 7 p.m.
Cost: $50 in advance; $60 at the door
Info: The Jamil Beachcombers is sponsoring a New Year's Eve Celebration to benefit the Shriners Hospitals for Children. Music will be provided by The Sensational Epics. Tickets can be purchased from any Jamil Beachcomber. For more information, call 803-772-9380.
Where: The Comedy House, 2768 Decker Boulevard
When: First show at 7:30 p.m.; second show at 10 p.m.
Cost: $18 (first show); $35 (second show)
Info: Head to The Comedy House for a night of laughter with comedian Doo Doo Brown. If you want to ring in the New Year, attend the 10 p.m. show for food, dance and a champagne toast.
