Famously Hot New Year 2013

Where: Main Street from Gervais and Lady streets, Columbia
When: 6 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. Monday (gates open at 6 p.m.)
Cost: Free general admission
Info: The Famously Hot New Year event held New Year's Eve on Main Street is the place to be. There's no general admission charge and parking is free. (If you want the red carpet treatment, you can pay $30 and up.) This year's entertainment is provided by The Reggie Sullivan Band, Terence Young and the Finesse Band, DJ BizMarkie, Atlantic Staff and The Wallflowers. Enjoy music, food trucks, fireworks and more. 

EdVenture Children's Museum's New Year's Eve at Noon

Where: EdVenture, 211 Gervais Street, Columbia
When: Noon Monday
Cost: Free with museum admission. (Children and adults: $9.50; Military with ID and seniors, age 62 and up: $8.50; Groups 15 or more: $7.50; Members and children under one are free.) 
Info: Join EDDIE at EdVenture Children's Museum for a New Year's Eve bash for kids. Doors open at 9 a.m. The ball drops at noon.

WOW! A New Year's Eve Carnival

Where: Finlay Park, 930 Laurel Street
When: 4 to 9 p.m. Monday
Cost: Free admission
Info: The City of Columbia Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring this family-friendly event featuring rides (tickets needed), games, food, entertainment and a special fireworks show at 9.m. For more information, call Kim Mitchell at 803-545-3100.

Jamil Shriners' New Year's Eve Celebration

Where:  Jamil Temple, 206 Jamil Road, Columbia
When: 6 p.m. Monday; Dinner served at 7 p.m.
Cost: $50 in advance; $60 at the door
Info: The Jamil Beachcombers is sponsoring a New Year's Eve Celebration to benefit the Shriners Hospitals for Children. Music will be provided by the Coastal Breeze Band. Tickets can be purchased from any Jamil Beachcomber. For more information, call 803-772-9380.

The Comedy House's New Year's Eve

Where: The Comedy House, 2768 Decker Boulevard
When: First show at 7:30 p.m.; second show at 9:30 p.m.; 
Cost: $15 (first show); $30 (second show); 11 p.m. $20 general admission
Info: Head to The Comedy House for a night of laughter, music food and more. At 7:30 p.m., laugh with comedian Shuler King. At 9:30 p.m., guests enjoy comedy from Shuler King, dancing with DJ Prince Ice, a complimentary buffet and a performance from Marvin Hunter. If you arrive at 11 p.m., admission is $20 to countdown to the new year. 

Bonus: New Year's Eve at Le Cafe Jazz, Finlay Park from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. Admission is $125 per couple/$75 single; $100 per person at the door. This event includes a free screening of "My Man Godfrey," jazz from Skipp Pearson and Friends stating at 9 p.m. and more. Click here for more information.
