District 5 Transportation Supervisor Named Support Person of the year

Jake Shealy, activity bus center supervisor in Lexington-Richland Five, was recognized as the 2012 Support Person of the Year by the South Carolina Association of Pupil Transportation.

“Jake has long been known for his outstanding work in maintaining our fleet of activity buses for the district," said transportation Director David Weissman. "However, over the last several years he has also been the nucleus in developing an enhanced training program for coaches and activity drivers that includes interstate and night time driving, bus evacuation of special needs students and defensive driving,”

Maintaining a safe and ready bus fleet with trained and competent drivers is absolutely critical.

Weissman said Shealy always exceeds expectations, no matter the task.

“Jake built both the activity bus fleet and driver’s training program from the ground up. His knowledge of state and federal regulations, and enthusiasm in keeping students safe, is the base of our district’s activity program and his influence on maintaining the highest level of safety is seen in everything we do.”
