The annual First Choice member scholarship is open to all First Choice members, and applications are due by Friday, March 15.

The First Choice member scholarship program began in 2010, when Select Health pledged $200,000 over 10 years to members of the community through its Caring10 program.  On-line applications and complete information about this scholarship program are available at www.selecthealthofsc.com/community/scholarship/index.aspx

“The First Choice member scholarship is always a highlight of our year,” said Cindy Helling, executive director of Select Health.  “It’s such a joy to be able to help highly talented and deserving recipients advance their education and expand their horizons.”

Foulks, a graduate of Dreher High School, is currently on her way to reaching her career goals. Foulks’ long-time fascination with science and desire to make a difference in the community have influenced her choice of major in biology with a concentration in biomedical research at the University of South Carolina. She aims to earn a master’s degree, and after college she plans on specializing in bioinstrumentation or biomaterials.

“This scholarship has not only provided me with the opportunity to pay towards my college education, but also to represent Select Health, an organization that is the epitome of everything I believe in,” said Foulks.

Hamilton, a graduate of Columbia High School, has strong aspirations to serve others in need through proactive medical care.  This drive continues to influence her career path and motivate her academic success in the biological sciences program at Clemson University. After completing her undergraduate coursework, Hamilton intends to pursue an advanced degree and career as a pathologist or geneticist.

“This financial support is helping me receive the education I need to pursue my dreams,” said Hamilton. “Being honored with the First Choice member scholarship is strong positive reinforcement, and it reminds me that if I keep holding on and never give up, I can reach my goals in life.”
