Nursery Road Elementary School has received the "Earning Plus Learning" award for showing how the school exhibits healthy living.
Mike Matheny, unit manager for Kroger, presented a $1,500 check ($1,000 prize and $500 for the recycling program) and plaque to school principal Dr. Christina Melton on Sept. 23.
Nursery Road was chosen as a result of a contest Kroger held last Spring on Recycling/Going Green. Karen Ogen, the school's InTec specialist, and Deidre Cousins, a math coach, collaborated on creating a Glogster, a free interactive poster, for submission. Kara Madsen, a PTO parent, also assisted in applying for the contest. The Glog, a graphical blog, highlighted Nursery Road's recycling efforts with annual events such as Beach Sweep River Sweep and the Recycling Club.
