The winning team will receive a trophy at the Carolina/Clemson game on Nov. 24 in Death Valley.
The Carolina/Clemson Blood Drive is held annually the week before the Carolina/Clemson football game.
The drive begins at the start of the holiday season when the blood supply typically weakens, according to a American Red Cross news release.
Over the past 27 years of competition, the universities have collected more than 90,000 units of blood, the release said.
All blood types are needed. A blood donor card or driver’s license, or two other forms of identification are required at check-in.
Individuals who are 17 years old (16 with parental permission in some states), weigh at least 110 pounds and are generally in good health may be eligible to donate blood.
High school students and other donors 18 years old and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.
For more information about donating blood, call 1-800-733-2767 or visit the American Red Cross' website.
