Authorities Warn of Federal Grant, Tax Rebate Phone Scam
Citizens should be aware of a telephone scam offering grant and tax rebates from the federal government.

The Newberry County Sheriff's Office is asking citizens to be aware of a telephone scam offering grant and tax rebates from the federal government.
Male and female scammers, with possibly a Caribbean accent, are calling citizens using the number 233-333-3333. The callers say they're from the federal government and are offering grants in various amounts, according to a release.
Authorities say the scammers bait the person by saying they're getting a tax refund. The scammer asks for personal information and a Visa number, and will also request that you send money.
