Batesburg Man Charged in Lexington County Truck Stop Robbery

Patrick David Lybrand, 24, of Batesburg was charged with armed robbery and possessing a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.

A Lexington County man wanted in connection to an armed robbery at a truck stop in Leesville was arrested on Monday, the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department said Tuesday.

Patrick David Lybrand, 24, of Batesburg was arrested at his home, and charged with armed robbery and possessing a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.

Investigators said around midnight on November 15, Lybrand entered the Hillview Truck Stop on Ben Franklin Road armed with a rifle similar to an AK-47 rifle.

Investigators said Lybrand had looked inside the store prior to the robbery.

Lybrand then pulled a bandana over his mouth and nose, and entered the store carrying the rifle under his shirt, according to the department.

According to an arrest warrant, Lybrand pointed the rifle at a clerk demanding $61 in cash and five cartons of Newport cigarettes.

Investigators said Lybrand left the store, but was confronted by the clerk outside of the store.

During the confrontation, the clerk took the rifle, money and cigarettes from Lybrand.

The clerk later identified Lybrand as the man who committed the robbery.

Lybrand was being held on Tuesday at the Lexington County Detention Center on a $101,000 bail.
