Boil Water Alert Issued for Part of Chapin Area

The alert was issued after a 12-inch water line break Sunday.

A boil water alert has been issued for residents in the Chapin area in Lexington County. 

Residents northwest of the intersection of Old Lexington Highway and Sid Bickley Road, including Chapin and the Amicks Ferry Road area should boil their water for at least one minute prior to drinking or cooking.

Any ice made from water that has not been boiled should not be used for drinking.

The alert was issued after a 12-inch water line break, which could possibly result in bacterial contamination of the water, the Columbia Water Works said Sunday. 

The Columbia Waterworks is working to fix the line break.
