Update: Boil Water Alert Repealed for Chapin Area
Residents no longer have to boil their water before drinking or cooking.

The City of Columbia Water Works advises the water customers of the 100 blk of Amicks Ferry Rd, Zion Church Rd, Broomstraw Rd, Huffield Rd, Turkey Point Subdivision, Virginia St. located in Lexington County that they no longer need to boil their water prior to drinking or cooking.
"Following an intense flushing of the distribution system, bacteriological samples were collected and analyzed by the City of Columbia Water Works. The results of this sampling indicate that the system is safe to use for drinking and cooking purposes," city officials said in a release.
Original story, October 14, 2013 at 09:41 PM: The City of Columbia Water Works has issued a boil water advisory for some residents in the Chapin area.
Water customers in the 100 block of Amicks Ferry Road, Zion Church Road, Broomstraw Road, Huffield Road, Turkey Point Subdivision and Virginia Street in Lexington County should "vigorously" boil their water for at least one minute before drinking or cooking. Any residents near the affected area who have lost water or water pressure should also boil their water. Any ice made from water that has not been boiled should not be used for drinking purposes.
The alert was issued after a six-inch water main break in the 100 block of Amicks Ferry Road.
The City of Columbia Water Works is working to correct the problem.
All food processors and restaurants should comply with prescribed USDA and SC DHEC recommendations, respectively.
