Brett Parker Takes Stand in Murder Trial

Brett Parker, an Irmo man on trial for the death of his wife and friend, took the stand Friday in his own defense.

Brett Parker took the stand in his own defense Friday, answering questions for close to three hours, according to reports. 

Parker said although his marriage to Tammy Parker was struggling, they loved each other, according to a report from WIS. He admitted he had an affiar, but said he and Tammy stayed together because of their kids. 

Tammy Parker was found dead in the Parkers' Ascot Estates home in April 2012. Brett Parker's defense attorneys say his gambling partner, Bryan Capnerhurst, shot Tammy Parker, and Brett Parker then acted in self-defense and shot Capnerhurst.

Friday, Brett Parker took the jury through the events of April 13, 2012. Parker said he heard gunshots upstairs, according to WIS. When he went up, Capnerhurst, who was there to collect money Parker owed him, was pointing a gun at him and forced him to go to the safe. Parker said he was then able to grab a gun from the top of the safe and shoot Capnerhurst. 

During cross-examination, the assistant solicitor asked Brett Parker several times if he shot his wife, according to The State. Each time he replied, "That's ridiculous" or, "That's crazy."

Because Monday is Memorial Day, court will resume Tuesday when the lawyers will give closing arguments, according to reports.
