Chapin High School Bids Up for Approval

Bid approval, Pledge of Allegiance policy among items on board agenda

Bids for the renovation and expansion of Chapin High School are up for approval at Lexington-Richland 5's regular meeting tonight at 7 p.m.

The meeting will be held at Chapin Elementary School, 940 Old Bush River Road.

The district has received eight bids for the project that district officials say will expand the school to hold up to 1,700 students.

The lowest base bid comes in at $43.4 million, with others not too far away at $45.3 million. The highest bid comes in at $50 million

The project is one of several projects approved in a 2008 bond referendum.

Despite the legal appeals file by board member Kim Murphy, Superintendent and expects construct to begin by the end of November.

Board member has said she will not vote in favor of the district's current renovation plans for Chapin High becasue she said the current plans will not accomodate 1,700 students.

Other highlights of the agenda include:

  • An update on the Vision 2015 plan
  • Approval of a change order to install an on-site water main at the district's new high school and the Center for Advanced Technological Studies (CATE) center
  • Approval of the name for the CATE center
  • Second reading or several board policies including ," which includes language about the Pledge of Allegiance
  • Election of board officers
