Chapin High Teacher Appeal Hearing Postponed

An appeal hearing for Chapin High teacher Scott Compton has been postponed to a date not yet determined, Lexington-Richland 5 officials said Thursday afternoon.
The hearing that was to be held in a private session was scheduled for Tuesday, March 5.
No reason was given for the postponement.

Compton has been on paid administrative leave since December after school district officials learned he stomped an American flag during a classroom lesson on symbolism.
Superintendent Dr. Stephen Hefner has recommended to the school board that Compton's employment with the district be terminated.

Compton's attorney, Darryl Smalls said his client's lesson on symbolism was not done to be disrespectful and that Compton was trying to show students that America is an "inspirational idea," greater than the "material objects that represent it."
