Chapin Man Identified in Lake Murray Drowning
The name of the victim who drowned Saturday on Lake Murray has been released.

The Richland County Coroner's Office has released the name of a Chapin man who drowned Saturday on Lake Murray.
The incident happened around 6 p.m. behind the home of Jackson Barwick, 87, of Love Valley Court, Richland County Coroner Gary Watts said in a release.
Barwick was in waist deep water cooling off from the heat when he called out for help, Watts said.

Barwick was under water for a short time before family and friends were able to get to him, and CPR was started, according to the release.
Barwick was taken by EMS to the Lexington Medical Center. He was pronounced dead at 7:04 p.m.

An autopsy performed Monday shows that Barwick died from asphyxiation due to drowning.
Barwick was a senior partner of Belser, Baker, Barwick, Ravenel & Bender in Columbia before retiring in 2000, according to an obituary on Dunbar Funerals and Cremations website.
He is survived by his wife, Nina, five children, 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
