Columbia Police: Woman Applying for Officer Job Used Forged Diploma

A 31-year-old woman applying for a job with the Columbia Police Department was arrested after submitting a forged diploma with her application.

Columbia Police arrested a woman accused of forgery after she submitted a fake diploma with her job application for an officer position with the department, officers said Tuesday. 

LaKeisha Danielle Bowman, 31, is charged with forgery after she applied for the Class III Officer position through the Columbia Human Resources Department.

The false document said Bowman received a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from ITT Technical Institute in June 2009.

Police said a recruiting officer immediately became suspicious of the document after the word ‘prescribed’ was spelled “prescrilbed.’ 

The fake diploma was allegedly purchased online for $100, police said.
