Coroner Identifies Irmo Truck Driver Killed in I-20 Crash

The crash happened around 6:20 p.m. Tuesday near mile marker 83.

The Irmo truck driver who died in a crash on I-20 Tuesday evening was 55-year-old Heyward Quattlebaum, Richland County Coroner Gary Watts said.

Quattlebaum, who lived on Kennerly Road, died after the propane tanker he was driving ran off I-20 near mile marker 83 around 6:20 p.m., Watts said. He died from trauma associated with the crash. 

He was alone in the truck, and the tanker was empty, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol.

The crash shut down I-20 for hours Tuesday night, according to WIS. It took crews well into the night to clean up the mess.
