Brett Parker's defense attorneys started making their case Thursday in day 11 of the trial.
The defense brought several witnesses to the stand to show that Brett Parker did not know the value of his wife's life insurance policy prior to her death, according to a report from The State. A salesman with MetLife said he met with Brett Parker after his wife, Tammy Parker, was killed in April 2012 at their Irmo home.
The insurance salesman said that until Tammy Parker's death, he had not spoken to Brett Parker about insurance since 2008, according to The State. When he told Brett Parker his wife had a life insurance policy of $703,000, Parker wanted to put it toward his children's education.

Prosecutors say Brett Parker knew about the value of his wife's life insurance policy and killed her so that he could use the money to pay off debt. They say he then killed his betting clerk, Bryan Capnerhurst, and framed him for Tammy Parker's death.
Also to testify Thursday was Brett Parker's 14-year-old daughter, according to reports. She said that she heard her father telling Bryan Capnerhurst that he needed a gun for protection.

Brett Parker's attorneys say Capnerhurst killed Tammy Parker in an attempted robbery. Brett Parker then shot Capnerhurst in self defense, they say.
The trial resumes Friday morning.
